Lead Sulfide Nanoparticles
These are an important group IV-VI semiconductor, which has attracted a lot of attention due to its special small direct band gap and large 18nm exciton Bohr radius. Different morphologies can play roles in properties. They include nanocrystals, nanorods, nanotubes, nanocubes, star shapes, dendrites, and flower-shaped crystals. They can all be prepared by different methods, such as hydrothermal and solvothermal, vacuum deposition, electrochemical deposition, pulsed laser deposition, spray pyrolysis, adsorption reaction of the next ion layer, photochemistry, chemical bath deposition, irradiation of λ rays, sonochemistry and radiation, microwave oven. Lead sulfide nanoparticles have wide applications in many fields, such as solar cells, solar absorbers, photography, lasers, LED devices, telecommunications, detectors, optical switches, optical amplification and also as gas sensing agents in solid state sensors. Only a few reports are available on the use of Lead Sulfide as a gas detection agent. A lead sulfide-based solid-state sensor has been reported for the determination of NO2 and NH3. Recently, Bandyopadhyay synthesized Lead Sulfide at the nanoscale based on the sol-gel method and showed that the synthesized nanocrystalline Lead Sulfide Nanoparticles was predominantly influenced by NH3 and NO2, among many other gases at room temperature.
