Silver Tungstate Nanoparticles

Silver tungstate nanoparticles exist in three phases, namely α, β and γ phases. Several groups studied studies on the heat capacity of silver tungstate, the kinetics and mechanisms of the solid-state reactions of silver tungstate with mercury bromoiodide and mercury chlorobromide, and also the solid-state reactions of silver tungstate with mercury bromide, mercury and mercuric chloride. The kinetics of particle nucleation and growth in homogeneous solutions can be regulated by the controlled release of anions and cations. Particle size is affected by reagent concentration, pH, and temperature. In the present work, we report a successful room-temperature synthesis of rod- and fiber-like silver tungstate nanoparticles by adopting careful control of the reaction kinetics of aqueous precipitation. The aqueous precipitation pathway is simple, ecological, inexpensive, highly reproducible, and provides a novel strategy to synthesize other materials of a similar nature. The nanoparticles in two different morphologies (rod and fiber) are prepared by a simple aqueous chemical route. The average particle sizes of the synthesized rod-like nanoparticles estimated by XRD are consistent with the TEM result. Surface morphology studies using SEM imaging reveal rod- and fiber-like nanoparticles with high aspect ratios. Furthermore, the method is simple and inexpensive because there is no need to use expensive coating agents or surfactants.
