Nanodiamond is used as a polishing material for the surface finish of watch sapphires, hard disks, and others. Detonation nanodiamond is used as a polishing material as well. Additionally, it can be used as a lubricant, for example, in motor oils. As an additive in galvanic chromium coatings, it increases the lifetime and surface hardness of the coated workpiece.

Diamond nanomaterials, especially nanocrystalline diamond films, are also very promising materials for electronic applications.
